Chandra Pasma chosen to be the NDP candidate in Ottawa West—Nepean

OTTAWA — New Democrats in Ottawa West-Nepean have nominated Chandra Pasma as their NDP candidate again for the 2022 provincial election. In 2018, Pasma finished an incredibly close second, earning 32.5 per cent of the riding’s votes, compared to 32.8 per cent taken by the Ford Conservatives.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath spoke at Pasma’s nomination meeting, calling her a fighter for public education, and a vital member of the NDP team as it works to form a new government in 2022.

An anti-poverty advocate and former policy advisor in the Office of the Leader of the Federal NDP, Chandra currently works as a researcher with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Quotes

Joel Harden, NDP MPP for Ottawa Centre
“I’m excited that Chandra is running for the NDP in Ottawa West-Nepean again after coming within an inch of winning in 2018. After being badly let down by the Liberals for a long time, people have been hurt by the devastating cuts from the Ford government. Ottawa families need New Democrats like Chandra fighting for them at Queen’s Park for investments in health care, seniors care and their children’s public education.”

Chandra Pasma, NDP candidate for Ottawa West-Nepean
“Ottawa West—Nepean families need hope after an incredibly difficult year. I’m running with Andrea Horwath’s New Democrats again because I want to be part of the NDP government that fixes long-term care, reduces class sizes, and puts a stop to hallway medicine — especially at our overstretched Queensway-Carleton Hospital.”
