NDP calls out Minister’s power grab as classrooms go underfunded

Ottawa — Minister of Education Paul Calandra has put yet another school board under ministerial supervision. NDP Shadow Minister for Education MPP Chandra Pasma has released the following statement:

“The takeover of the Peel District School Board shows that this Minister is more focused on power grabs rather than improving student outcome.” Said Pasma. “If student success was truly this minister’s priority, then the necessary resources would have been directly invested into our classrooms.

“Once again, not a single dollar was put into our classrooms, instead parents' voices have yet again been taken away.

“We have seen time and time again that the school boards that have been put under ministerial supervision have not improved student outcome. But have taken away important advocacy from parents and shut them out from important decisions being made.”
